REPORTING ON KENYA

If you are a blogger who, like me, has been following the continuing crisis in Kenya through what those closer to the events have been reporting both in conventional media and the blogosphere, or if you’re just a regular reader, it would be a good idea to follow the links BRE put together in this great roundup at Jewels in the Jungle and is keeping updated since the beginning of the month.

I haven't been too good about the updating side of things since the original post date of January 4th. Like many people who are attempting to follow unfolding events in Kenya I'm bowled over by the intense coverage in the international press and media and in the blogosphere. Global Voices Online has been doing a very good job of aggregating reports from bloggers and citizen journalists around the world, as has websites i.e. Kenya Unlimited(KBW), African Loft and African Path.

I'm anxious to move on to more positive news about other countries and people on the African continent as their stories have been overshadowed and severely sidetracked by the political and humanitarian crisis in Kenya. This mess in Kenya is going to take a while to sort itself out, that much is clear.

Hi BRE,

If you don’t mind me saying this, in my humble opinion the ‘big brothers’ of the blogosphere can only be as ‘big’ and as ‘good’ as the individual bloggers of their choice… And what I really and seriously value in the reports by individual bloggers like yourself is their capability not only to express their own individual opinions (thus making themselves accountable for them…) but also to step out of their particular comfort zones and ‘kingdoms’ or ‘queendoms’ to give voice to a plethora of different voices on one same issue – isn’t it after all what the blogosphere is supposed to be all about?
To that extent, it doesn’t particularly matter to me in this instance if you have or not been regularly updating your reporting because the updating is being made by your commentators and the blogs and sites you were generous enough to link up your post to.
So, once again, my thanks to you for that.
