“We collectively felt that people of color (not just African-Americans) have contributed so much to the fashion industry, yet at times our contributions are not as apparent in mainstream media or at key fashion events... so, we thought why wait for others to highlight our fashion icons, why not do it ourselves.”
- the Block Association
The “April is Black Fashion Month” campaign will kick off with a PSA and short video doc that will premier at this year’s Fashion 500 taking place on Saturday, April 23rd at No. 1 Front Street in Dumbo, Brooklyn. The Block Association will then roll out a series of videos featuring thought leaders and key influencers of color within in the NYC fashion industry. Starting off the campaign in NYC, the goal is to eventually roll out ‘Black Fashion Month” in other cities.
