Africa - 50 years of music

“Africa 50 years of music” has to be the largest collection of music from across the continent with 18 CDs, 185 tracks by 183 artists from 39 countries. The collection is organised chronologically into six regions.

With so many tracks, the collection goes beyond the usual suspects : Miriam Makeba, Fela Kuti, Youssou N Dour, Franco, Cheb Khaled, Cesaria Evora, Mulatu Astatke, Salif Keita, Manu Dibango and Oum Kalsoum – and mostly recorded between 1960 and 2009.

A good review from All About Jazz which includes a complete track list and another from The Observer.
