'Who Runs The Dance'

Beyonce', The Girls and The [Mozambican] Boys

Tofo Tofo is the name of a group of African dancers from Mozambique. The name means “body shaking.” The choreography in Beyonce’s song, “run the world,” was inspired and replicated from the dance moves of Tofo Tofo.
In the short mini-documentary named “Beyonce: Year of 4.”, Beyonce describes how she felt that “run the world” reminded her of Africa and how she locked away a YouTube video of Tofo Tofo in her mind when she first saw the video a couple of years ago.
Replicating Tofo Tofo’s dance moves was not easy. As she says in the documentary “I had every talented dancer and choreographer trying to do the dance but they just couldn’t do it like Tofu Tofu.”
So what did Beyonce do? She flew Tofo Tofo out of Mozambique to the States!
