Miss Angola is Miss Universe 2011

Although I cannot be said to be particularly keen on this kind of competition (as can be gathered here and here), this one deserves a special note on this blog:

Leila Lopes, Miss Angola, has been crowned Miss Universe 2011!

She lives in London and started her meteoric rise to Miss Universe on October 2010, when she was elected Miss Angola-UK. From there she went on to represent the Angolan Community in London at Miss Angola held in Luanda last December which she won. Now she is the first young lady from Angola, the second from Africa (following in the steps of Mpule Kwelagobe from Botswana) and among a minute few non-white girls in the world to reach such heights in this international beauty pageant celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

I would like to show some love to Leila. And hope that the hateful speeches don't affect her "inner beauty" and her "principles".
Go girl, all the best.
